Helping you craft great writing

You have something important to communicate and deserve to have it noticed and taken seriously. I’ll help you to express yourself clearly, correctly, and professionally through your writing.

Whether you’re an author, student, businessperson, or from some other walk of life, professional editing can provide you with real value. Let’s make your writing the best it can be.

Welcome!

I’m Shane Lewans, and I started EditRight in 2019 to help authors, academics, businesses, and job seekers achieve their goals. I developed an interest in editing when I envisioned how I could combine my technical knowledge and education with my writing skills in a way that would enable me to support others every day.
Since that time, I’ve had the opportunity to help all kinds of people and businesses to get published, find employment, and increase sales. Witnessing the aspirations, determination, and passion my clients convey through their writing has deepened my commitment to providing exceptional service and continually improving my skills.

My mission is to help you get your message across the way you intended — to bring out the best in your writing.

Message me at any time to find out more about how I can edit and improve your writing. I look forward to working with you!

What are your qualifications?

Since 2019, I have edited and proofread thousands of pieces of writing, including research papers, blogs, websites, apps, books, brochures, product descriptions, resumes, letters, manuals, and more. My clients have included authors, researchers, job seekers, and businesses.

I focus on editing technical writing and content marketing and have a Diploma in Information Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems, and a Professional Writing Certificate Specializing in Business and Technical Writing. I am also a member of Editors Canada.

Continuously improving my skill set and keeping my knowledge up to date is a top priority to me, as I aim to provide you with the best service possible.

Can you format my manuscript to follow a specific publishing or citation style (e.g., Chicago, APA)?

I am experienced in formatting manuscripts in a range of styles, including Chicago/Turabian, APA, MLA, Harvard, and IEEE. Contact me to find out if I can edit your document to follow a specific style.

Can you edit my text to follow British English conventions?

Yes — and American, Canadian, or Australian English!

I am a non-native English speaker. Can you make my writing clearer/more natural?

I have edited the writing of hundreds of non-native English speakers. Though I don’t offer full rewriting services, I can reword your text at the sentence level to make it more readable and natural.

Can you edit my Google document directly?

Yes, if you prefer. You’ll just need to share the document with me and provide me with editing permissions.

Can you edit documents in formats like DOCX, PDF, Markdown, HTML, XML, TXT, etc.?

I can edit a wide range of document types. Contact me to find out if I can edit a document in a specific format.

How will you mark your edits in my document?

Normally, I show my edits with the markup functionality of the software I use to edit your document (such as the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word). Marking changes is not possible with every document type, but we can arrange another way to track changes if you want to see the revisions I make. If you prefer, I can also edit your document without showing my changes.

How quickly do you respond to messages?

I typically respond to emails and other communications within one business day.

What is your turnaround time?
Turnaround times depend on several factors, including the size, complexity, and writing quality of the document. My workload for other clients may also vary at times. Generally, I will return smaller documents (< 3,000 words) within one to three days.

Contact me if you would like me to estimate the turnaround time for your document.

How do you charge for editing work?
I typically charge a fixed (per-word) rate for editing. For one-time projects, I will send you an invoice once I have finished editing and you are satisfied with the work. For ongoing work (e.g., editing for blogs/content marketing), I bill on the last day of each month. Please let me know if you would like to arrange a different payment structure.
What are your rates?
My rates can vary depending on the type and complexity of the content. Contact me to receive a quote for your project.
Can I receive a sample of your editing?
I can offer you a free sample for a larger/ongoing project. I can also provide you with example documents that demonstrate the types of edits I make. Contact me to learn more.
